Our recycling station is located behind the kitchen. In close proximity for convenience, yet outside for sanitary reasons.

Step 1 : Clean

The recycling station is outside. It is therefore crucial to rinse off any leftovers to avoid it from attracting animals and becoming home to insects and bacteria.

Step 2 : Minimize

Our recycling station has limited capacity. Before storing waste it is folded to take up minimal space in each box.

Step 3 : Separation

We separate our waste into different categories, namely

• Paper*
• Plastics : hard & soft, mixed (e.g. coated or w/ metal)
• Glass
• Metals
• organic**

Each category has a designated box that the waste is stored in.

Step 4 : Collection

The separated recyclable materials are taken to Tulum Circular, a recycling center.

Step 5 : Sorting

At the facility the recyclables are sorted by type (and later by quality).

From here on the facility manages the materials but we'll continue for completion of the process.

Step 6 : Processing

The sorted materials are cleaned and processed into raw materials. For example, paper is pulped and reprocessed into new paper products, while plastics are melted down and remolded.

Step 7 : Manufacturing
